I swear, Tumblr.
Everyone who has been involved or following Internet social justice for a while has a long list of criticisms of how things go down.
But Tumblr SJ warriors, you are a fucking abomination. No, really, this shit you guys pull is so damaging. It’s like you have no concept of institutional oppression meaning more than rude comments or a few inconveniences. It used to be that people who were learning would lurk forums and blogs for a little while, maybe fuck up once or twice, and learn from our mistakes and others’ before representing themselves as any kind of authority.
This little narcissistic platform has made every moron who just learned the word “intersectionality” an expert. When you use social justice terms as buzzwords to make yourself sound like you know what you are talking about when you don’t, you pollute our language. A language that gave people a means of articulating their experiences of real, concrete oppression. I won’t be surprised to see a Non-Torchwood-Fan Privilege Checklist before long.
There seems to be absolutely no respect the fact that oppressions like racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, transphobia, and classism all have a decades-long (well more than a fucking century in the case of racism and sexism) history of being articulated, with a lot more than just a list or a snarky macro everyone was supposed suddenly take for granted as fact. Unpacking The Invisible Knapsack was an admittedly imperfect tool in the arsenal for educating on white privilege, not divinely-inspired instructions for anti-oppression-by-number, god damn it. And if you’re going to start coining new oppressions, you can at least take the time to learn where the popular models come from (cough cough, critical race theory) and the history of anti-oppression movements before 2008.
That’s all I have to say right now.

We don’t need to come up with new oppressions to explain why abuse of women is excused by the woman’s lifestyle.
Emphasis mine because holy shit.

As I am sure most of you are aware of by now, there has been a lot of drama going down regarding asexuality, the LGBTQ and “queerness”.
Now, my stance on this issue isn’t “Asexuals are definetely queer and therefore must be included in the LGBTQ”, because believe it or not not all asexuals…
i just… what. the queer community is not a support network for “those who feel alienated and marginalized by the rest of society”. it exists for queer people, including queer asexuals. we are not obligated to provide straight asexuals with our spaces or our support, and to say they have any right or claim to it is incredibly entitled.
